The North American Whiskey Guide

Tis the season my friends! Time to break out the holiday spirit and get to celebrating. And as you know, here at the Nobler Experiment, we take the Holidays pretty seriously. It’s such a wonderful time to imbibe and nothing says “I appreciate you” like a good spirit based holiday gift. I recently got my hands on a copy of The North American Whiskey Guide from Behind the Bar: Real Bartenders’ Reviews of More Than 250 Whiskeys by Chad Berkey and Jeremy LeBlanc and it’s the perfect read for the budding whiskey lover in your life. With phenomenal detail and great reviews of the massive amount of brands and varieties available to the whiskey enthusiast, this is a true staple to add to your barside book collection.

Beyond great whiskey reviews, The North American Guide also showcases a number of really delicious and creative cocktail recipes. One of my favorites, the Bentley Old Fashioned, plays up the beautiful flavor combination of chocolate and bourbon and is the perfect cocktail for this year’s holiday party. Bentley Old Fashioned (Yields 1 cocktail)

2 oz (60 ml) Breaking and Entering Bourbon

2 dashes chocolate bitters

½ oz (15 g) orgeat syrup


70% dark chocolate, for garnish

In a bucket glass, add the bourbon, bitters and syrup. Then, add a large cube or ball of ice, stir well and garnish with shaved dark chocolate over the top.
